At California Carnival Company, safety is our number one priority. Our safety record is among the best in the industry, and truly reflects our safe hiring practices, ongoing training, and strict ride inspection standards.

DRUG TESTING

California Carnival Company enforces a strict no drugs policy on our midway. All of our full-time employees are required to pass a Pre-employment drug test, as well as, random drug tests throughout their employment with California Carnival Company. California Carnival Company enrolls all of our class A truck drivers in a random drug pool with DAC services. Each quarter, names are randomly selected for a DOT drug test, and the selected individuals must immediately go to a collection facility site for a drug test.

BACKGROUND CHECKS

All full-time California Carnival Company employees must pass a Megans Law Sex Offender Background Check. Information can either be sent or called into the California Department of Justice to determine if an individual is a 290 registrant. We feel this policy is necessary to promote a safe midway.

EMPLOYEE HIRING AND TRAINING

At California Carnival Company, we believe that safety begins with a well-trained, qualified staff. If an applicant possesses the right qualities for employment, they are asked to take a drug test. The individual is also notified that their information will be submitted for a background check. If the individual passes the drug test and background check they can begin the employee training process.

California Carnival Company has developed a safety certification system, to keep track of the different levels of employee training. Employees begin at level 1 (Ride Attendant) and can ultimately reach level 6 (Team Leader II). Each level has a variety of requirements needed to pass to the next level.

An Employee must be specifically trained to operate each ride. A Training Checklist is completed for each ride that an employee will operate. The checklist documents the fact that the employee has been properly trained. The form is then signed by the employee to indicate that they have read and understand all safety information pertaining to that specific ride. Employees are also required to watch safety training videos pertaining to safe ride operation.

RIDE INSPECTIONS

Each day before the carnival opens, each ride is inspected by one of our certified Team Leaders. These Team Leaders are highly qualified employees who have obtained a Level Five Safety Certification or higher. The Team Leaders fill out Daily Ride Inspection Reports that are specific to each carnival ride, and then turn them into the maintenance department. The carnival manager reviews the inspection sheets and is responsible for addressing any issues that require correction. This process is also followed on the weekly, monthly, bi-annual, and annual inspections.

The carnival office contains manuals for each ride, as well as, binders for each ride, which contain all Daily Inspection Reports, Operators Daily Logs, Manufacturer Bulletins, and any work orders.

All California Carnival Company rides are inspected and certified by the State of California, Department of Health and Safety (DOSH). All of our games and food concessions comply with all federal, state and local laws and ordinances. Game concessions on the midway comply with P.C. 334 regulation, and all food stands are permitted by local Department of Health.

CERTIFIED RIDE INSPECTORS

California Carnival Company is proud of its safety record and we encourage our employees to continue advancing through ongoing education.  Several of our key employees have obtained ride inspector certifications from the National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials (N.A.A.R.S.O.), and other employees have increased their knowledge by participating in industry safety seminars.

OUTSIDE INSPECTIONS

In addition to our thorough, in-house ride inspections, our equipment is also regularly inspected by several outside agencies and companies.  Outside inspections are performed regularly by inspectors from the California Department of Occupational Safety and Health, California Fairs Service Authority, our own insurance carrier, as well as, by private ride inspection consultants.  Combined with our own inspections, these outside inspections help to ensure the highest level of safety for our guests and staff.
